The NDNA (National Day Nurseries Association) Platinum certification is an advanced level of accreditation under the Quality Counts scheme, designed to recognize nurseries that provide exceptional childcare and education. Achieving this certification involves a thorough and rigorous assessment process that includes self-reflection, external audits, and onsite evaluations by early years experts.

The Quality Counts scheme is based on high standards of practice and principles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, aiming to promote continuous improvement within nurseries. Nurseries that earn the Platinum award demonstrate outstanding leadership, staff capabilities, child development practices, and a commitment to health and wellbeing.

EYFS

An EYFS certificate, specifically an Early Years Foundation Stage certificate, demonstrates that an individual has the necessary training and skills to work with young children, typically from birth to age five. This certificate is often a requirement for those working in early years education settings in the UK, such as nurseries, preschools, and school reception classes.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework in the UK that sets standards for the learning, development, and care of young children. It covers all areas of development, including:

  • Learning and development: This includes the seven areas of learning and development as defined by the EYFS framework.
  • Safeguarding and welfare: Ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the early years setting.
  • Statutory framework: The EYFS framework outlines the legal requirements for early years providers, including staff-to-child ratios.
